In our last newsletter, we promised you would get to meet our new Clinic Manager. Well, now’s the time! Mackenzie Whitmire, RN has been part of the Hilltop Clinic team since April and we are so happy to have her!
Tell us a little about yourself:
Hi, I am Mackenzie Whitmire. Wife to Luke and mom to 3 girls; Landree (11), Quinn (8) and Sutton (3). When I am not in the clinic working as a nurse, I am more than likely at a softball field or in a gym watching one of my girls sporting events or at the lake enjoying time with family.
Why did you want to work at Hilltop Clinic?
My husband Luke is the site director of a ministry called the ‘Christian Service Center’, located behind Hilltop. In late 2020, Luke heard about the new medical clinic opening across the street and reached out to Dr. Reid to meet up and discuss ministry in the Capitol Hill area. During that meet up, Dr. Reid and Luke made the connection that I was a nurse and previously worked with Dr. Reid’s wife, Ashley, at Integris Baptist in the pediatric ICU. This connection was no coincidence. God had been working. We were just beginning to connect the dots. Once I became aware of Hilltop, I was able to watch from a distance as the clinic grew and found its’ footing in the Capitol Hill community. As Hilltop continued to grow, God continued to draw me back to the work & the community it serves through conversations with both my husband, Luke, & Dr. Reid. Being a part of a faith based, non profit medical clinic has been a dream Luke & I have discussed & prayed about for years. Little did we know that God would answer this prayer of ours by placing us just a block away from each other. Having the opportunity to serve the same community is truly only something God could have scripted for my family. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work and serve.
How have your first few weeks at the clinic been?
My first few weeks at the clinic have been great. At first it felt like drinking from a fire hose, learning all the important things all at once. I am feeling more confident in my role and with my clinical skills every day. All my Hilltop co workers have been incredibly welcoming and kind as they’ve helped me learn my new role.
What are some of your favorite things about working at Hilltop Clinic?
The kids! Hilltop has some of the best patients and parents. Every opportunity for face to face interaction with patients and their families is a blessing and something I cherish. Being a part of a team that is not only helping kids heal, but also educating families on how to keep their kiddos healthy is incredibly life giving to me. I love the diversity of families that we care for at the clinic, hearing the stories of the families and learning of the different ways in which our lives have crossed paths. My heart and passion to serve as clinic manager and clinic nurse continues to increase with each passing day.
What do you feel God is teaching you in this season of life?
Trust through obedience. I am learning that if I am willing to step out in obedience and trust in God’s plan for my life, He will provide in a way that only He can.
Finally, is there a verse that has been encouraging to you lately?
“so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. and I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.”
Ephesians 3:17-19
